SMART WORKING

SMART WORKING FROM HOME DURING CONFINEMENT

To help you out make your home a better environment during these days, and also keep yourselves
busy, DAAA HAUS team members from the Malta, Milan, Ragusa and Mumbai offices are sharing
some ideas and tips that they are adopting daily too.

Don’t worry, these are simple ideas, and not home refurbishment projects. You would not even
need to pick up a paintbrush. All we want here is to push the border of your creativity and help
you step out of your comfort zone to find ways to improvise and stay active.

First of all, we highly advise defining your new routines. Starting by setting up a clock for waking
up at the same time each morning. Then continue with some stretching/exercises and then groom
yourselves. This will give you energy and make you feel good. Then it’s important to prepare a good
breakfast (protein – carbohydrate – lipid). May these good things last after all this… Hopefully, they
will become our ‘new healthy habits».

Pamper yourselves every day, before or after work, but every time with something different. It can
be a call to someone you love, take your favourite glass of wine with your beloved or a video call with
friends, it can be some workout, learning something new or even trying to cook something new for
yourself.

Hope you find these simple suggestions useful.

6 EASY STEPS TO SMART WORKING SPACE

I. Organize a corner in your home that you can define as “your private workspace», a place where
you go only for work. It will help your mind slowly get used to it. Step by step you will start
feeling more focus and become more productive.

II.
Check that you have the correct lighting setting. When setting up your working space make
sure the natural light doesn’t bounce on your screen neither on your face. (i.e. light should come
in from the side). Also, better to keep light shades.

III.
Be as much comfortable as possible. The more comfortable you’ll be the less tired you’ll get.
We recommended to stand up and stretch out for 3 minutes every hour. It is very important for
wellbeing.

IV.
Tidy up your environment. Make sure that your workspace has an attractive, tidy backdrop. Now
that we all get used to video conferencing and meetings our backdrops are more important
than ever before. The backdrop of our working space becomes a reflection of ourselves.

V.
Improvise a memo/corkboard to list tasks or to pin inspirational quotes/photos that can keep
you motivated.

VI. Move all the equipment/technology that you require to work within your new workspace.

4 TIPS FOR A WELLBEING SPACE

I. Create your own green corner. Depending on your space make it indoors and outdoors. Whilst
plants and flowers are known to bring peace, it is recommended to create little green corners/
nurseries to help for little breaks throughout the day. This can simply start by grouping all indoor
plants in one spot or create a nursery recycling food tins and others used as containers. As an
example one of our architects recycled broken travel luggage to give his two boys their own
vegetation patch on the veranda. Kids love to copy adult whilst they play, by being given tasks
and responsibility to keep a green corner can be a great way to bring awareness of nature to
there sens.

II. Design you working out area for some fitness exercises. Ideally, the space should have a 2m
clear radius around you. If not, possible be careful when working out.

III. Enjoy your sens. Make sure your house smells nice throughout the day. Scents play an important
role in the moods we have. Some simple suggestions; burn a toast in the morning, burn a
calming lavender scent stick or orange blossom in the afternoon and a cedar wood or anything
strong and spicy in the evening. Experiment till you find what you like the most. One architect
mixes her own oils and found that lavender + mint best for during the day. Lavender helps her
relax whilst mint helps concentration. Changing the scent of your home throughout the day will
help you keep a sense of time.

IV. Play low background music throughout the day. If you live on your own you can even increase
the volume and sing out as music makes us feel good. But consider others if you are sharing
the space with other family members. Suggest common background music for the home and
headphones for everyone to avoid conflict. Use music platforms to suggest music for the right
mood. Choosing the right music soundtrack for every kind of activity can help to focus, reduce
stress, play and laugh.

To conclude DAAA highly recommends all to use this time as an opportunity to organise things
and declutter. Clear up space from unnecessary objects, decluttering is the key. Sort out your
wardrobes, drawers from accumulated bills, organise your photos.

Not only you will feel better but you will have the opportunity to re-live nice memories through
family and friends. It’s the perfect moment to bringing back memories but don’t forget … less is more.
