President’s Palace
Our aim throughout this process is to restore and protect the history and authenticity of the building whilst reviving and breathing new life into this part of the palace and eventually opening it up for public viewings. Designed in 1830,s by George Whitmore, a royal engineer and architect, the building is neo-classical in style. All of the rooms take their style lead from this style and era, each will feature design details, fabrics, furniture, antiques and artworks from this time. Daaahaus are working closely with her excellency, heritage Malta and local historians to ensure the outcome is a true representation. We are also using the best local craftsmen to restore and recreate these features.
Redecorated rooms:
- The music room.
- Traditional an ornate, vibrant entertaining room.
- The library.
- An intricately designed room with walnut shelving and panelling, traditional ceiling cornices and details – this room will feature historic correspondence between diplomats and heads of state throughout Malta colorful history.
- The billiards/ games room – a restful room featuring an antique billiards table and associated details.
- Ladies room – a light whimsical space with authentic fine fabrics sourced from archives. This room will feature some fine Maltese crafts such as lace making.
- Grand salon – a grand room for entertaining that will be inspired by the amazing garden in which the palace sits – an ornate room with hand painted frescos.
