“Friendly Strangers” Photo Exhibition
“A story about humanity.”
This is essentially how art director and creative designer Elsa Allen describes “Friendly Strangers”, an exclusive selection of photography taken by herself, depicting the human experience of a young solo photographer travelling the world, offering the visitors a journey through the looks and faces of the people who welcomed her in the most remote corners of this earth. All this with the context of the Maltese capital of Valletta, nominated for the current year as the European Capital of Culture, serving as the basis to invite everyone to discover, enjoy and create culture together.
With hindsight to the selection of photography, Elsa further comments that the exhibition ultimately encompasses “the power to feel at home, even in the most remote corner of the world. It’s about people that welcomed me with a smile, a look, a gesture; strangers who shared a moment of their lives, that left me with an incredible memory, to remembered forever. And now, I can only dare to share my experience through these photos.”
The exhibition consists of 23 large format photos, shot by the artist herself.
The prints are on sale as single pieces signed by the artist, and the artist is donating part of the proceeds to the Malta Community Chest Fund.
Elsa is an art director and creative designer with a strong aesthetic sensibility and a special eye for imagery. She made her first solo trip to Japan when she was 23 and after years of exploring the world in bits and pieces, she recently made the trip of a lifetime, a 6 month period of travelling from South East Asia to South America. Travelling with little more than a backpack and her camera, she made her way through India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Ecuador and Peru, in the meantime collecting unforgettable memories and impactful photos.
The President of Malta, Her Excellency Marie Louise Coleiro Preca recently had the opportunity to visit the new daaa:logix gallery on the occasion of the launch of the space and inauguration of the photo exhibition.
The President toured the exhibition with a keen interest in the individual stories and the countries in which the photos were taken as explained to her by the photographer. She applauded her work and congratulated the initiative auguring all ways to support art and encourage more of these these cultural gatherings and events for the future.
