Chapeau

Situated in Rabat, Chapeau is a small bistro which forms part of the boutique hotel Townhouse 17. For the Interior design of Chapeau, we took certain aspects that influenced the design of the hotel mainly focusing on the bright colours and certain decorative elements. The main colour used in the interior is this particular shade of blue which was used on the walls and ceiling. Classical Maltese panelling design was used on the wall to add definition and details and this was sprayed in this off-white colour to contrast the blue while helping to keep the space feeling bigger than it actually is. At the far end of the restaurant, one can find a customised wallpaper which is a reinterpretation of the wallpaper design which was typical in the 70s. The play with colours continues on the bespoke bench design with its bright orange microfibre textiles and retro-style design.
The main focus of our design was the bar area which takes a big chunk of the interior space. The bar was clad with this beautiful marble that has a grey undertone which creates balance with the rest of the colours we have in the space, while the hints of burgundy and pinks that the marble has match the colours used in the wallpaper. Ribbed oak wood was used on the side of the bar to add warmness plus create a defined area which will be used by the hotel as a small reception. The same material was used to create these storage boxes at the back of the bar combined with a black metal structure and the same marble used on the front. Lighting was used to emphasize the beauty of the marble while the pattern was once again inspired by the work of Gio Ponti.
Different Concrete pendants were used in general to add that modern touch while creating a pool of light in the areas we required, which adds up to a very cosy atmosphere. The shape of the soft furniture is very classical and timeless to blend well with the rest of the design. The interior design of Chapeau was inspired by the past but transformed into this modern bistro which one can enjoy all day for a nice cup of coffee or a chilled dinner with friends and family.
