DoubleTree by Hilton

The newly designed common areas including the reception and lobby bar areas for DTbH Malta embodies a harmonious blend of nature and culture, seamlessly bringing the outdoors inside to create an inviting and warm Mediterranean ambiance. This project, rooted in the authenticity of the prehistoric ruins and natural environment, integrates a variety of unpretentious elements to reflect the true spirit of Malta, ensuring that every visitor feels welcomed and connected to the surroundings.

Concept and Design Approach

The concept for the interior was developed around the idea of infusing the natural beauty of the Mediterranean into the space. To achieve this, several natural elements were incorporated, including semi-artificial trees, light oak woods, and intricately reproduced motifs on raw materials like clay-finished decorative renderings and textured laminates. These features evoke the traditional Maltese handmade lace, renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship and timeless essence of the region, providing visitors with a genuine sense of place.

The use of an earth-tone color palette, accented with hints of terracotta, enhances the natural and warm surroundings. This carefully selected palette creates a hospitable environment that resonates with the hotel’s Mediterranean location. The lighting design plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall concept. Carefully selected lighting fixtures highlight and complement the natural and organic features throughout the common areas. The lighting accentuates the texture and depth of the materials used, creating a calm and serene atmosphere.

‘Juniper’ which is the lobby bar, serves as a seamless extension of the reception area, transforming into an intimate and elegant retreat where guests can unwind and enjoy a calm, cozy atmosphere. This space is thoughtfully designed with a lush green tonality, achieved through the careful selection and layering of various texturesin the chosen materials, creating a rich and immersive experience.  This is emphasized through the use of different textures, such as velvety upholstery, rich wooden finishes, and organic textiles; all contributing to a cohesive and inviting setting. The green palette is balanced with contrasting black accents, which not only add a touch of sophistication, but also help transition the ambiance from day to night, making the space versatile and dynamic.

Juniper offers a variety of seating options, thoughtfully arranged to provide distinct zones within the same space. Guests can choose to dine or lounge next to the bar, which features high stools and a sleek counter, ideal for a casual drink or a quick bite. Alternatively, the modular sofa area provides a more modern and stylish relaxed ambiance, with plush seating and low tables perfect for intimate conversations or unwinding. This zoning creates a flexible environment that caters to different needs and moods, enhancing the overall guest experience.

The lighting in Juniper is meticulously planned to highlight the different zones and enhance the overall atmosphere. Detail-oriented lighting fixtures are strategically placed to create a warm and inviting environment. The back of the performing stage is a particularly striking feature, with a vegetation illustration and back-illuminated panels that cast a soft warm glow, making it a focal point in the space. This, not only draws attention, but also adds a touch of drama and elegance, transforming the bar into a captivating venue during performances.

In conclusion, the newly designed DTbH Malta is a carefully thought out designed space that offers a blend of elegance, comfort, and versatility. From the selected materials featuring different textures, to the strategic choice of lighting and multiple seating zones, every detail is crafted to provide a unique and enjoyable experience for guests, inviting them to relax and indulge the serene atmosphere.
