Chophouse has been operating as a steakhouse restaurant for over 10 years on the island enjoying the best view of the Capital City - Valletta. It is known as one of the best restaurants to offer a vast variety of grilled meats and wines. With years of experience in this industry, the client - Kitchen Concepts Ltd. also owners of Vecchia Napoli, Cafe Cuba, Manakis and Gululu to name a few, have decided to revamp this restaurant and take it to a different culinary experience.
Together with the client, we immediately immersed ourselves in research to find new trends. Part of our research was also visiting a few iconic and new restaurants in London to bring something fresh, new and exciting to the island.
Following that, we have identified the need for creating a gastronomic experience brought to life by introducing bold and dark elements to create a different atmosphere that expresses luxury but also fun at the same time. With the combination of such elements, we wanted to create a glamorous fun dining experience that fits our design brief of GOOD NIGHT OUT experience.
This is transmitted immediately on the entrance with the introduction of lush green wallpaper throughout, dark colours and the theatrical rich curtain fabrics. Following that, we decided to split the restaurant in 2 areas. A chill-out bar was separated at the entrance, where one can enjoy a drink and some nibbles and a dining area with an open kitchen. Comfortable sofas and lush green plants are dividing these 2 zones.
To spice up this experience, a playlist was carefully selected including some funk and neu-electro-jazz adequate for a lounge environment still enjoy a speakeasy dining experience.
Dimmed lighting was used throughout with the introduction of battery-operated Flos table lights to creating a warm and more intimate mood. This also helps in giving focus not only to the food but also the breathtaking views.
Another area within the restaurant is the Wine Cav. This was an existing feature within the previous restaurant that we wanted to retain, but at the same time enhance.
We were also asked to restyle and revamp the chophouse brand. We cleaned it up to just the basic and by using simple bold font. We enhanced the experience on the collateral material with contrasting dark green and salmon colour and introduced patterns of wallpaper used with the interiors on some material. We also suggested special high street fashion pieces for all staff uniforms from the host, bar and service staff offering patrons a WOW surprising experience throughout.
