Casa Travi is a cozy, intimate guesthouse located in the peaceful area of St Julian's, just steps away from the seafront promenade.
Housed in a classic Maltese building, Casa Travi retains its iconic wooden door and charming balcony, carefully restored to preserve its original beauty. A meticulous restoration work was done to revive the building’s authentic features, seamlessly merging them with modern design interventions, a perfect blend of warm ambiance and romantic charm
The façade has been renovated, keeping the upper section exposed with the original Maltese stone, while the lower part is covered with a rendering in the same color as the stone, creating a balanced contrast between the old and new elements.
Inside, the property preserves its distinctive characteristics, such as exposed wooden beams, traditional xorok ceilings, and ornamental plaster moldings. A signature shade of brick red runs throughout the space, tying the brand together. This vibrant hue is reflected in features like the entrance door, the balcony, and other façade elements, as well as subtly woven into the interior furnishings for a cohesive feel.
For the project, natural materials were prioritized, with oak wood used for custom furniture and travertine stone as the predominant material. Travertine can be found throughout the space, used for countertops, decorative wall cladding, and flooring on the ground floor.
The flooring was designed with the crazy paving technique, which contrasts with the uniform walls and sleek, minimalist furnishings. A patchwork of stones in shades of brown, ochre, and light ivory creates a stunning aesthetic impact.
To access the rooms, guests ascend a distinctive white metal staircase, another standout feature of the design. The staircase, with its bent metal frame and perforated metal sheet railing, connects the ground floor to the first floor, enhancing the contemporary character of the space.
The bedrooms feature custom furniture with a metal hollow-frame structure and oak wood accents, embodying a clean, minimalist design. White details, such as the furniture handles and the metal framework of the bed's headboard where the upholstered panel is hung, add a subtle touch. The flooring is terrazzo with warm ochre tones, while the walls are painted with a lime wash effect, creating a serene and timeless atmosphere.
