Sweetness meets subversion.
The Marshmallow by DAAA Haus for Palladio Concepts takes its cue from the playful world of candy – those soft, pastel clouds of joy that recall innocence, touch, and temptation – yet translates them into an object of architectural wit and material illusion.
Presented as part of the DAAA Haus Collection at Carbon Boutique in Milan, The Marshmallow invites curiosity before comfort.
At first glance, its volumes appear sculpted in perfect, polished ceramic – a cold, hard shell, refined and deliberate. Yet, as one sits, expectation dissolves into surprise: what looked unyielding gives way to a soft, sensuous touch, a surface that yields like a sigh.
This visual paradox is achieved through the poetic collaboration between DAAA Haus and Palladio Concepts, where traditional plastering craftsmanship meets experimental thinking. The studio reinterprets Palladio’s recycled cement finishes, layering them in soft marshmallow tones – blush, ivory, powder grey – while embedding memory silicone and stretched latex to create the illusion of solidity.
The result is a design that plays tricks on the senses – hard masquerading as soft, soft pretending to be hard – questioning our assumptions of materiality, comfort, and beauty.
Those who sit on it cannot resist touching it twice, as if to confirm what the mind refuses to believe.
More than a pouf, The Marshmallow is a dialogue between discipline and delight, between the rational precision of construction and the emotional seduction of touch – a playful sculpture that reminds us design can still surprise, and softness can be found even in stone.
